Vancouver Youth Music Association is a student-run non-profit organization with the goal of teaching children up to grade 8 how to play the violin.
Our organization was established in response to the government's decision in cutting funds for elementary violin teachers. We believe that the violin is not only an amazing instrument to learn as a hobby, but also to open new doors. |

OUR CO-FOUNDERS
Anson |
Anson is one of the early initiators that formulated the fundamental beliefs of VYMA in 2016. He started learning the violin since grade three and has relative experience in other musical instruments as well, such as flute and piano. Anson understands the importance of instruments and the positive influence it can have on children early on. Thus, after the abrupt budget cut impacting music programs by the Vancouver School Board in 2016, he went on to find solutions to help the children in need. Fortunately, a group of his like-minded friends and Anson knew about this social issue and started what is known as the VYMA. After graduating from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and passing down the torch to his colleagues, he went on to study in Simon Fraser University. Anson is currently an alumnus of SFU with a combined background in Economics and Business and he is pursuing a career in Real Estate.

Ravi |
Ravi Soni was one of the co-founders of VYMA in 2016 and is a student at the University of British Columbia studying a combined major in Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science. Classical music has played a pivotal role in Ravi’s life since the age of 9. From elementary and high-school orchestra’s, chamber music, as well as various music festivals, music has inspired and connected Ravi to the world around him. Ravi is a strong believer in the power of VYMA and the positive effect it has on the lives of young individuals. No matter how daunting playing an instrument may feel, never giving up is the key to success and accomplishment. During his free time, Ravi loves watching TwoSet Violin videos and listening to the Sibelius Violin Concerto, one of his favourite pieces of classical music!
